How precuts convert to yardage
A fat quarter is a true quarter yard of fabric area, just cut wide (18" × 21") instead of long. Charm packs, mini charms, layer cakes and jelly roll strips convert by area: the piece's square inches divided by the 1,512 square inches in a yard of 42" fabric.
Area math slightly flatters small precuts, you can't sew ten charm squares back into a usable strip, so treat the result as a stash-counting number, not a substitute for the pattern's own requirements.

YardKeep keeps every fabric photographed and counted, so questions like "do I have enough backing?" answer themselves.
